Playground construction is an important part of gardening and landscaping. Nowadays, new playgrounds are regularly created as part of green spaces in modern development areas or as part of urban district renewals. There are also playgrounds at schools and kindergartens or daycare centres, some of which are showing their age and need to be modernized. As a landscape gardening group, we have built up a wealth of expertise in playground construction from which every client can benefit. Here we show how we design playgrounds that are fun and safe at the same time – and which fit harmoniously into overall concepts.
Playground construction – a partner for new projects and renovations
Safety standards, concepts for solutions
When selecting and installing playground equipment, we are guided by important standards such as EN 1176 for safety and quality. Depending on the project and the client’s wishes, further criteria are added. One example is the choice of materials – natural wood has a completely different effect on play areas than playhouses or climbing structures made of heavily treated wood, plastic or metal. The trend here is towards naturally designed spaces that integrate harmoniously into a landscape design.
Playgrounds need maintenance – we’re ready
Successful playgrounds are used intensively. This is why equipment, materials and plants must be carefully selected. Examples of regular maintenance in playground construction are:
- Depending on the concept, the cleaning of floor elements or sand as well as the periodic replacement of these materials should be included in the planning.
- Sunshade concepts are becoming increasingly important to protect children and parents from extreme heat and direct sunlight.
- Any damage to playhouses, swings or climbing equipment can be repaired, for example by replacing the wood and conducting repairs.
- Good planning is required for the vegetation to avoid accidental poisoning from ingested fruit or parts of plants.
- Finally, lawns, hedges and trees need to be trimmed and maintained so that the play areas remain usable at all times.
One reason for the modernization of playgrounds can be the lack of maintenance concepts in addition to obsolescence. With our know-how and extensive equipment, we are also happy to be your partner for playground modernization!
Smooth transitions between landscaping and playground construction
Why does it make sense to choose a group of companies with expertise in gardening and landscaping playground construction as a partner? For us, the matter is clear: Playground construction is increasingly becoming part of the overall planning for new residential areas or district redevelopments. Transitions between public, semi-public and private green spaces are often fluid.
Multifunctional spaces
Green islands for play can be part of multi-purpose green spaces – this means that children and parents can find attractive recreational areas in green spaces that promote the local microclimate and serve other user groups for recreation or sporting activities.
Traditional playground construction
In addition to such projects, there is still traditional playground construction. The focus here is on a defined area that is to be redesigned as part of a school, crèche or daycare center site. Here, too, it is a good idea to involve companies in the project that are familiar with native plants, can provide earthworks and path construction and are also experts in irrigation and drainage.

Neighbourhood design with playground areas, Bonn-Duisdorf
The “Pandion Ville” project comprises around 400 residential units on the former site of the Gallwitz barracks in Bonn-Duisdorf. Our group member Ringbeck Galabau created the spacious green areas for the first two construction phases, the design of the center of the district and a park. In addition, we have created natural play areas in the residential area, which increase the quality of life in the district through their landscaped appearance and functionality.
Playground design, Berlin-Rudow
In the heart of Berlin-Rudow, a newly designed playground was created in the outdoor facilities of Fritz-Erler-Allee between 2017 and 2019, financed and initiated by the building cooperative IDEAL eG. The innovative project, planned by LOOSE Landschaft & Textiles, covers an area of 4,000 square meters and was implemented with a budget of € 506,000. Our group member Flöter & Uszukureit is responsible for the attractive playground design.
Play and leisure facility, Berlin-Mahlsdorf
In 2017, our group member Flöter & Uszukureit built the Dürergärten play and leisure facility in Albrecht-Dürer-Straße in Berlin-Mahlsdorf, an initiative of the Marzahn-Hellersdorf council in Berlin. A modern play and leisure area was built on a total of 1,800 square meters at a cost of € 217,000. The facility offers children, young people and adults a wide range of opportunities.
Playground at Rudolfplatz, Berlin-Friedrichshain
The new playground at Rudolfplatz in Berlin-Friedrichshain was completed between 2018 and 2019 on an area of 2,200 square meters. The project was initiated by the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg council and planned by hochC Landschaftsarchitekten. Flöter & Uszukureit from the Greenovis Group was responsible for the completion of the outdoor facilities (construction volume: € 608,000). The project is characterized by lovingly designed wooden play objects that blend harmoniously into the urban environment.
